GPS2PDA

GPS2PDA (GPS To PDA)  is the software you use to collect the field data to be processed in the office with PC-Travel or PC-LOS. The software runs on commonly available Palm PDAs as well as on Pocket-PC type PDAs (iPaqs or Dells). You connect a GPS receiver to your PDA in one of three ways: use a GPS receiver that has  a special cable for your PDA provided by the GPS manufacturer, use  a GPS receiver that plugs into your PDA (using a Compact Flash or SD slot), or use a Bluetooth GPS receiver with a PDA that supports Bluetooth.  The software is simple to use; there are only a few screens.

GPS2PDA - Preferences

Preferences
This is the screen you use to set some of the parameters of the program such as the type of GPS receiver you are using, the data screen format you want to use (there are two), the Comm Port of the GPS receiver connected to the PDA, and whether you want to input run direction information before each run (which simplifies processing the run data back in the office).
.

GPS2PDA - Select Dir

Input Run Direction
If you choose the option to input the run direction in the Preferences screen (which we recommend) then you see this screen at the beginning of each run. You tap the button for the direction and the software adds the direction information to the name of the run when it is processed in PC-Travel.

GPS2PDA - Collecting Data

Data Collection Screen
This is the screen you see when you are collecting the data. Before you start a run (typically the car is off the road and at rest) you can check to make sure the GPS data is received properly. Then you can start a run and begin driving. You don’t need to pay much attention to what is on this screen while you are driving; if the background is green, then you are collecting good data.

These three screens just give you a brief introduction to the GPS2PDA software. To learn more about the software you can download the various programs and try them out. They will install in a Demo mode, which is the full program but slightly crippled so it can’t be used for real studies. You can also download the PC-Travel Manual which has complete descriptions of the programs and how to use them. You also can view the tutorials on the Tutorials page which provide more information about different aspects of the software.
